Simple sewing

Lately I have had a few sewing projects on the go and I have managed to complete them. Overall I am happy with the end result I am not happy with the hidden mistakes that I know are there. I have really enjoyed picking up the long dormant sewing skills and creating something lovely out of just a piece of fabric.
My first finished project (for a better word) was an everyday tote that I got out of a lovely book called "Weekend Sewing' by Heather Ross This was surprisingly easy the result looks great.

Next was a gypsy skirt for Isabella in her Favourite colour of the moment - purple! I loved making this and am so happy with how it falls and of course twirls.

And finally a shoulder bag that was created out of necessity. I am going on a plane with only carry on Luggage so it means I can't take my hand bag so I needed a bag for when I got there so out of my head came this design. Don't you just love the gorgeous fabric I found to line it - thank you Funky Fabrics.

It has been a many a year since I last wrote here, so why start to write again? Well life is busy and there is not much time in those days that I take to reflect. This is something I want to change. My life is not amazing, spectacular or Instagram worthy but it full of ordinariness. So what is an ordinary life, well it is messy, complicated, challenging and unique. My life can not be copied but it can be relatable. I am a nearly fifty woman, working full time, with teenage children, trying to do everything but not feeling like I succeed at anything. I look at the lives at others and wish for a fraction of those lives but then realise that they may be thinking about my life like that. Fruitful Saturday

Well I have finished creative boot camp today and throughly enjoyed the experience. It was great to put my brain into that creative gear. Although I did not get into the journalling side of the experience as I would have liked just thing through the prompts was an enjoyment in itself. I am hoping to do a similar thing in July so we will see the path that leads me on. This afternoon the kids and I went to Spotlight (A warehouse type store for craft and fabric) not a good move as every man and his dog was there as they had 20% off but we had things to get- things to make bookmarks for the kids and wool for me. We managed to get out unscathed but my wallet was considerably lighter. First task getting home was to make vanilla cupcakes - Isabella made up a recipe it was good but needed a few adjustments. So off to the net to seek out a recipe - done. The kids helped and made a mountain of mess - that is still waiting to be cleaned (I am not a domestic goddess). Whilst they were in the oven...

What's your footprint?

I have just started back at uni for 2013. One of my subjects is Society, environment and health and one that I am going to enjoy immensely. Why? Because the subject is right up my alley - teaching children how to begin living sustainable lives and how to become responsible global citizens. As part of this subject I have to do an online test that measures my ecological footprint. After doing my calculation, I saw the need 2.1 planets to sustain my current lifestyle. I was quite disappointed to get this result as I actively try to live a sustainable life. Over the next 8 weeks one of the challenges is to take steps to minimise my ecological footprint. One area that was highlighted as contributing to my footprint was my consumption of red meat. That is something I can try to do as well as minimising how much I drive the car.
