Tales of an Ordinary Life

We are a camping family, and it had been some time since we had been out in the great outdoors. So my birthday weekend we headed west about an hour and a half from home (for those who know SE Queensland it is just near Cunningham's Gap) and camped on this lovely cattle property. It was so lovely to be outdoors and to sit by the fire on a crisp winters night. We were lucky it was not too cold. All the stresses and strains of city life just ease away as soon as that car door opens and the tent goes up. And for the cows.... they came to visit us in the morning.

Today I went a local Koala sanctuary with Jasper's class. I had never been there before and it was great. There are more Koala's than I had ever seen before and they were so close. I could have sat and watched them all day if I did not have a bunch of 6 year olds to watch out for. Jasper enjoyed the day and I love this photo of him as it shows his thoughtful personality.

Brisbane in terms of world history is quite a young city. But this house we visited, Newstead house is one of the older specimens in the city. I love it for it's wide veranda's that you could imagine the early settlers sitting on taking their tea whilst enjoying the view and the afternoon breeze. I so love the tropical cottage garden that surrounds the house and even though it is not traditional it evokes that same feel. There is some thing about this old house that is missing in our newer Queensland home and I think that word is practicality. We often build or renovate now for what it looks like but low and behold we put something into our home because it is practical and not pretty. Also I could not help but share these gorgeous photo's of my kids. Hard to believe we are in the middle of winter.
